Plant a seed for peace. The Monarch butterfly: a symbol for worldwide healing.

Boca Raton, Florida., /For Immediate Release/ -- Every day butterflies raised by the Live Monarch Foundation are released nationwide at events as living symbols of peace. Now the Foundation is distributing free milkweed seeds in an effort to strengthen the Monarch butterfly's 3,000-mile migration route across North America. The Monarch butterfly may thrive once again with our support.

Monarchs fly free on most every continent and have been adopted worldwide as symbols of strength, beauty, peace, courage and National healing. "We released Monarchs to commemorate; the thousands lost at the Twin Trade Towers, the 7 Columbia Astronauts, Holocaust Victims, and for countless other seemingly inconsolable losses we must endure publicly and privately as participants in the human condition. Butterflies have a thousand year history as messengers between Man and heaven in which our message has remained the same, a prayer for Peace and Healing in our time of need." said Mr. Singer, Founder of the Live Monarch Foundation. www.livemonarch.org

BACKGROUND:
On New Year's Day 2002, there was one Monarch butterfly for each of the 287 million Americans living in the United States. Only 13 days later 80% of the total US population, 220-280 million Monarchs were dead, having frozen to death at their over-wintering sites in central Mexico. Acres of rotting butterflies several feet deep was more than most could bear without asking silently why. "Monarchs are making a comeback but need our help to cultivate food for their young in order to make their full migration from Central Mexico to Canada and back". added Singer.

Through their web site (http://www.livemonarch.org), the Live Monarch Foundation in the past year, has distributed over 2,000,000 free butterfly garden seeds, educated 133,000 Internet surfers, and raised and released 7,700 new Monarch butterflies as well as countless milkweed plants.
The Live Monarch Foundation is a 501(c3) not-for-profit foundation, it is transforming America's backyards into a refuge and base of support for Monarchs. GOT MILKWEED?
How You Can Help the North American Monarch

Boca Raton, FL, March 19, 2003 -- On New Years Day 2002 there was one Monarch butterfly for each person living in the United States. There are still 287 million Americans, but most have not seen one Monarch butterfly last year. Monarch populations have lost numbers for decades due to urban sprawl, deforestation, herbicides, pesticides, disease, genetically engineered crops and droughts. This year a freak weather pattern devastated the colony wintering in the mountains of Central Mexico killing 220-280 million Monarchs. More than 75% of the total population froze to death. Yet, there's hope, if we all help.

Milkweed is the sole food source for Monarch caterpillars without it they will perish. "Our goal is to strengthen the 3,000 mile migration route of the Monarch butterfly across North America by increasing the amount of milkweed. One seed can make a difference, we need you to plant it." said Mr. Singer, Founder of the Live Monarch Foundation. By sending a self-addressed, stamped envelope to the Foundation, you will receive free milkweed seeds and complete instructions to raise milkweed and Monarchs in your community.

Through their Web site (http://www.livemonarch.org), The Live Monarch Foundation, in the past eight months, has distributed 1,700,000 free milkweed seeds, educated 90,000 Internet surfers and raised and released 6,300 new Monarch butterflies as well as countless milkweed plants as part of their comprehensive national campaign.

The Live Monarch Foundation is a 501(c3) not-for-profit foundation. Its goals include the
education, involvement, support and acknowledgment of persons directly acting to benefit the
Monarch Butterfly and native creatures, which have suffered a decline in their natural habitats. Live Monarch is transforming America's backyards into a refuge and base of support for Monarchs, an integral component of the multinational movement to ensure their survival.

The Foundation's upcoming events include hands-on education for young and old with distribution of free seeds, live butterfly releases, and a very visible and efficient method of seed dispersal in air by powered paraglider.
